Minimal Christmas Decor – Simple and Festive

Minimal Christmas decor is awesome because it’s quick to put up and quick to take down. Your home is simple yet still festive for the holidays.

Over the years I have adapted a simpler decor style. I love a clean look in my home, but still like to have touches of the holidays throughout. After all, aside from Thanksgiving this is my favorite time of year!

I do have to be honest, with life being so busy lately I am running a little late in the decoration department. My Christmas stuff has been coming out of its bin little by little. But hey I finally got it up and while we’re being honest it’ll probably be up until mid-January anyway hehe.

I am also trying to be more mindful of the types of decorations I buy, I prefer wood or ceramic, and not so much plastic. It’s better for the planet, so I’m trying to do my part. But I don’t toss anything that I’ve had for a while that is plastic. I’ll keep it as long as I can.

So these ideas are perfect if you have a small space, are looking to keep things simple this year, or are running a little late like me.

First, I love our bookcase corner.

The sign on the wall I have had for a while now. I believe I may have gotten it from Kirkland’s. It was one of our first Christmas decorations when Eric and I moved in together. So I put it up every year as a symbol of how many Christmases we’ve spent together. It’s so nice the memories that it brings.

We purchased this bookcase not too long ago because we were buying books and didn’t have anywhere to store them. Little did I know how much fun it was going to be to decorate it, especially for the holidays.

On the top, the 2 Santa hats and Christmas tree I got from the $1 spot at Target. Don’t you just love the Target $1 spot? Gets me every time! When I went to Target this past weekend I couldn’t find these, but they still have some cute signs and things to hang. I also have a string of lights to help brighten it up at night. Those I bought at HomeGoods for about $4.

On the second shelf, the little Nutcracker ornament we bought a couple years back when we went to see the Nutcracker ballet with my parents. He’s so cute and I really like the colors. The rest of the items came as a set my mom gave me. I’m not sure where she bought it from, but I love it. I tell her she’s my decorator because she finds and MAKES the coolest things! There are also some tea lights in the cups to illuminate the space at night.

The last shelf with some Christmas spirit is another item I found in the Target $1 spot. I did however, paint over it. The sign came in a light shimmery pink color. Not too festive…so I painted it red to give it a little more pop. So please excuse any smudges you may notice, it’s homemade :).

As for the living room, I have lights outlining our windows. I do actually keep these lights year-round because I like the warm, inviting feeling it gives when they’re lit at night. Which you’ll see as you keep scrolling down.

In the kitchen, I just added this wooden decoration that I found this past weekend at Michaels. I was so excited that I got it for $6! One of the good things about decorating a few weeks before Christmas is that a lot of the stores are having sales on Christmas decor. I know Hobby Lobby and Michaels were having 50% off this past weekend. I went to Michaels because I also had a coupon for an extra 20% off, even sale items! Don’t you just love a good discount, I know I do.

It came as a blank canvas, just plain wood, so I painted this too. I really like how it came out. I think it gives the kitchen a nice pop of Christmas cheer. It also lights up, which I thought would go perfect with my window lights at night.

Moving on to the dining area, my favorite decorated area, I have some lights around our painting. The table runner is from the Target $1 spot, which they still might have. I saw some this past weekend. The place mats are also from Target and you can find them here.

The center piece and candle holders on the table are from my Momma. See why I call her my decorator. The candle holders she made, while the center piece she bought from some cool store only she must know about because I don’t know how she finds these cute things. There is a tea light in the center piece to bring some more warmth to the table at night.

The first thing you see when you walk into our home is this festive rug, again from Target…yes, I’m obsessed! I really like that the colors go well with my “pop of red” theme and is still simple.

Now this all looks so nice during the day, but my favorite is at night. It looks so pretty and warm. An amazing space to spend the holidays drinking hot cocoa, and watching Christmas movies.

Now you may have noticed there is no tree. Overtime, Eric and I decided to opt out of a tree for now. I don’t like having to buy a tree that only lasts for a month or so, then having to throw it out. It’s so hard to find places to recycle them, in our area anyway. I also looked into artificial trees and found they have so many chemicals in them. Another thing I’m not a fan of. So, until we change our minds, we don’t mind not having a tree. It helps us save space and I make sure to keep it festive even without it.

Here’s to Happy Holidays and ringing in the New Year with warmth, love, laughter, and…maybe a Home Alone marathon. Merry Christmas!
