5 Things You Don’t Know About Me | abrikliving.com
March 13, 2019
Get to know me! I wanted to do something fun today and share 5 random things you probably don’t know about me.
Although I share many things about myself and my life on the blog, it seems like almost a lifetime of things you may not know about me.
So to get to know me a little better I thought I would share some fun random things.
1. I have an excellent memory.
My memory goes all the way back to when I was really little. I remember getting a Donald Duck stuffed animal for Christmas from one of my Tias when I was about 3 years old. My Donald Duck obsession was no joke and I absolutely loved my stuffed animal. But one thing I noticed was he had no ears.
Why doesn’t Donald Duck have ears, none that stick out anyway? I was really confused by that and it bothered me. So I asked “Where are his eyoos?” I still don’t know haha.
Wow see what I mean – a good memory. I kept that thing well into my adult-hood and I’m not ashamed to say it! Miss you Donald.
2. I love Disney movies.
My love for Donald Duck turned into a love for Disney movies, especially the ones from the 90’s. You know Pocahontas, The Lion King, Beauty and The Beast, Mulan, A Goofy Movie, Toy Story, the list goes on! And I still love to watch Disney movies, even the new ones.
When Eric and I first started dating I asked him to come watch Brave with me in the theater, which is such a great movie by the way. He was so embarrassed because we were about the only ones in the theater with no kids.
I was happy as could be though. Just give me a good Disney movie, some popcorn and snacks, and you’ve made my day.
Eric has since gotten over his embarrassment too. I think it was just weird for him because the only time he’d gone to see an animated or Disney movie was with his nephews.
But there’s a first time for everything, and it definitely wasn’t the last.
3. I “ran away” when I was 5.
I remember being so upset with my Mom one day because she was telling me to clean my room.
My poor Mom was always telling me to clean my room, it was such a mess. Which you would never expect considering how organized I like to be now. But I sure was a messy kid. I always had toys everywhere and never wanted to clean them up. Every parent’s life story I’m sure.
Anyway, I was so upset I went outside.
The house I grew up in was the second house from the corner of the street. And we had a chainlink fence around it.
I remember saying to myself “I’m just gona run away and live somewhere else, maybe the mall. Then I won’t have to clean my room at all!”
So I walked outside the chain link fence, got to the front of our house, almost near the neighbors and freaked out. I quickly ran back into our yard and went back inside.
I think I told my Mom I just ran away haha. But I didn’t dare tell her I went outside the fence though because then I would’ve really been in trouble.
Needless to say, Mom won that battle and my room was clean that night. Oh and I never “ran away” again, too scary.
4. The Giver is my favorite book of all time.
I have always enjoyed reading. I miss having the time to read more books, like when I was younger. But out of the many books I have read, The Giver will always be my favorite.
I think the author does such a great job of telling the story, shaping the characters and the ending is the best part.
If you haven’t read this book, I highly recommend it.
It’s a fictional story about a boy who lives in a community that controls the actions of everyone right down to their partners, careers, and children! It’s crazy. The boy, whose name is Jonas is given the task as Receiver to take in all the memories of his community. The book only gets more interesting from there.
They did make a movie based off the book, but I’m not a big fan of the film. I thought they left out many important parts from the book. So, I would recommend starting with the book first then see what you think.
5. I have a pretty decent singing voice.
Singing has always been one of my secret hobbies. Except it’s not a secret to my neighbors who I probably drive crazy when I’m cleaning.
I loved to sing Selena songs (Quintanilla – the original, yes I said it), and I still do. A few of my other favorites are Adele, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Leona Lewis and Martina McBride.
When I was 5 my Mom put me in this singing group called Sunshine Generation, which I think still might be around. They had singing groups for ages 3-18. We would put on little concerts around town.
I didn’t do that for a long time, but I did take voice lessons when I was about 9 years old and sang in my high school choir.
I used to say I wanted to be a singer when I grew up. But things changed the more I began to realize my stage fright. I prefer more the back of the stage as opposed to the front.
That’s ok, my broom and I do just fine on cleaning days hehe.
A few bonuses
There are 5 things you may not have known about me.
One extra is that I’ve always been a lover of french fries! If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen me mention this a few times, and it’s even written on my profile.
I just love to eat them. When we’re choosing a place for dinner on the weekends, this will usually be my top pick…some place with fries.
When I was little the story is that I used to hide fries in my diaper or pockets. I don’t hide them in my pockets anymore, but I do ask Eric to order extra fries. Mostly because it’s the one thing I don’t like to share. Sorry not sorry.
The last little bonus, you may have already noticed but just to confirm – my favorite color is purple!
When I was in the planning stages of the blog, there was no question in my mind that one of the main colors featured would be purple.
I’ve read that the color purple can represent spirituality and peace. And I think purple and gold are such pretty colors together. So that’s how I came up with the color scheme, in case you were wondering.
I hope you enjoyed these 5+ little random things about me. I’m hoping to do more of these as time goes on. Let me know if you enjoyed reading something like this.
What’s your favorite book or movie? Do you have a funny childhood story you’d like to share?
To the randomness of life, may it always make us smile!
