10-Minute Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

There is nothing like a nice warm bowl of 10-minute apple cinnamon oatmeal to start off your morning. Not only is it healthy, but it helps to get you energized and ready to take on the day ahead!

They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That’s definitely true for me. I have to eat breakfast, if not I get hangry…and that is not a fun time. So I do my best to eat something every morning, even if it’s something quick.

That’s why I’ve been loving these 10-minute oats, because they’re quick to make, and taste and smell amazing!

First, I dice up half of a fresh apple. Gala is my favorite, but you can use whichever type of apple you like best.

Then, I add my quick oats to a small pot on the stove at medium-high heat. It’s important you choose the quick oats because they have the fastest cook time. There are also regular oats and steel cut oats. They say the steel cut are the healthiest, but of course they take the longest to cook. So we just like to stick with the organic quick oats. I get them from the bulk bin at Whole Foods.

I add some water to the pot, just enough to cover the oats.

Then I add most of the diced apples to the pot along with some cinnamon. I don’t use all of the apples because I like to set a few aside to place on top of my oats at the end.

Next, I bring the oats to a boil then turn the heat to medium and continue to cook for 5 minutes, or until most of the water is gone. The apples will soften but won’t be too mushy. You can always cook them longer if you want the apples to be a little softer, but make sure to add a little bit more water so the oats don’t burn.

After that, I transfer my oats to a bowl and add some organic maple syrup to sweeten them up a bit.

Some other options for a sweetener are honey, stevia, and brown sugar. Sometimes I do like to use the brown sugar because it gives the oats a deeper, hearty taste but I was trying to keep it light and healthy today.

Finally, I top my oats with the rest of my apples and a sprinkle of cinnamon, then dig in!

I like to put some apples at the top because it gives the oats a little bit of a crisp, crunchiness as an added layer of texture…I think I’ve been watching too much Chopped!

Anyway, I hope these oats fill you with warmth and energy throughout your day. Enjoy!
